Avon Products has sold natural skincare brand Liz Earle to Walgreens Boots Alliance for £140m. Having acquired Liz Earle in March 2010, Avon has managed the brand as a standalone business, separating it from the company’s core direct-selling operations. The divestiture will allow Avon to focus on its standalone operations, the company states. German chemical company Merck aquires Isreali quantum materials firm Qlight Nanotech

Known for its high tech healthcare products, German chemical company Merck has revealed that it is due acquire a 100 percent controlling stake in Israel-based quantum materials company Qlight Nanotech. Merck plans to utilize Qlight Nanotech’s Jerusalem-based research hub, where the company’s team of top university researchers and scientists are currently based. New industrial tax on cosmetics wholesalers in Brazil likely to push up retail price of products

A new industrial tax on cosmetics wholesalers and producers is due to come into effect in Brazil this month is likely to drive up the retail price of make-up, perfume and personal care products. Trade association Abihpec has warned that retail prices are likely to rise by as much as 12 percentage points above inflation, potentially leading to a decrease in sales.
