Cosmetics brands are the hardest hit by the sale of counterfeit goods via Amazon, according to a report published by the World Trademark Review.

A new report, produced by Gartner L2, has concluded that approximately a third of product listings by third party sellers have at least one product review that references fake or suspect products.

The study analyzed 158 brands across fashion, beauty, personal care and headphones and found that make-up had the highest share of third party listings, which makes it more likely that counterfeit or damaged goods will be listed for sale.

Top brands such as L’Oréal, e.l.f. cosmetics and Olay have a review citing inauthenticity on some 75 percent of ASINs.
