Kanebo pays further compensation in skin whitening lawsuit

Kanebo has offered compensation to an additional 44 women in Japan after complaints of further skin blotches following use of the company’s skin whitening products.

The amount paid was not disclosed by the women’s lawyers, however a total sum of approximately ¥805 million ($7.2 million) was requested in damages in Osaka District Court, with Kanebo stating it would pay each plaintiff individually based on their symptoms.

The recent pay out is the latest settlement from Kanebo after 20,000 consumers reported white patches on their skin following use of the company’s products containing Rhododenol.

Some 31 women out of the 44 filed the original complaints in 2015, with 13 following on after.
