L’Oréal SA has beaten Godrej Consumer to become the leading urban hair car marketer in urban India, according to data from Nielsen as reported by the Economic Times India.
L’Oréal achieved a 25.8 percent market share in the urban hair colour market in value terms last year, beating Godrej’s 24 percent. This was a shift in the top players, with Godrej leading the market in 2017, holding a 26.3 percent share to L’Oréal’s 25.3 percent.
The rise to the top has been attributed to L’Oréal’s mass market range Garnier Black Naturals, the highest selling brand for the company.
Speaking about the development, Amit Jain, Managing Director at L’Oréal India, stated, “We have an advantage in terms of value of L’Oréal Paris and also the whole salon channel, but Godrej has done a brilliant job of creating that category.”
