Kao has announced the development of fine fiber technology – a light, soft and natural, ultra-thin membrane on the surface of the skin that can move flexibly and maintain moisture permeability.
This ‘second skin’ is created by spraying the skin with a polymer solution of superfine fibers that are mere submicrons in diameter. It can blend seamlessly with skin as it becomes thinner towards its edges, rendering its boundaries unnoticeable. Kao is planning to present its results at a series of academic conferences that cover fiber engineering, dermatology and cosmetics science.
The innovation is thought to be capable of advancing applications in the therapeutic field as well as dramatically improving the endurance and evenness of cosmetic products, creating a new category of skin care and make-up.
