Shiseido has announced that it is set to spend between ¥40 and 50 billion on a new plant located in Fukoka Prefecture, according to a report published by the Nikkei Asian Review.

The Japanese cosmetics manufacturer already has two plants under construction in its home country – one in Osaka and one in Tochigi – so when the latest addition to its manufacturing portfolio goes live, which is currently anticipated for 2021, Shiseido’s production capacity will be doubled.

The Kurume plant will span 100,000 sq m and will boast a capacity of 140 million units. Shiseido will be employing the latest technology to ensure the factory remains globally competitive despite Japan’s high wages.
