Several multinationals, including Johnson & Johnson and Colgate-Palmolive are maintaining skeleton operations in Venezuela, with employees kept on retainers while they wait for the country’s chronic shortages and economic turmoil to improve, according to a report published by Business Insider.

The report highlighted the service these companies are providing to employees, even as production has ground to a halt due to a lack of raw materials, such as access to the cafeteria for meals and continuing to pay salaries.

Other multinationals, including Clorox and Kimberly-Clark have pulled out of the country altogether, but a handful remain, hopeful that as the situation improves, they will be best placed to profit.
