The SkinTRUST Society has announced the launch of its new global standard, which it says empowers consumers to make medically sound decisions about cosmetics and everyday skin care products.
In the absence of evaluation by a regulatory or independent body, says SkinTRUST, consumers have no way to verify claims made by manufacturers.
“We encourage people worldwide to join our movement by asking store-bought brands to submit their products to SkinTRUST Society for certification,” said Brundha Balaraman, Founder of the Society. “It’s time to take the guesswork out of product choices and take control of knowing if they’ve been adequately tested for safety and effectiveness.”
Pre-launch, SkinTRUST conducted a survey of US adults and some 64 percent were unsatisfied that common terms such as hypoallergenic, natural etc were open to interpretation. Some 73 percent were more likely or very likely to choose a product with the Society’s ‘dermatologist approved’ seal over a product that did not show compliance with a set of standard criteria.
